Empowering a sustainable future with local baby flours

Enterprise
Le Lionceau
Presentation of the enterprise
Founded in 2021, the enterprise is committed to addressing the gap in infant nutrition in Senegal.
Amount of co-financing
EUR 120,000
Challenge
In Senegal, one-third of children under five suffer from malnutrition due to inefficient food systems and weak value chains. Most of the baby food available is imported at high prices, hindering the development of local production better suited to the needs and habits of the population.
Innovative solution
As part of the Tawfekh project, Le Lionceau is developing enriched infant flour made from local ingredients such as millet, corn, cowpea, groundnut and non-wood forest products such as baobab, cress and moringa.
This flour offers a local, nutritious and affordable alternative to imported products. It is available at affordable prices, with plans for an instant version and a microdosed format to broaden its reach.
By working with producer cooperatives and women’s groups, Le Lionceau promotes local employment, enhances agroforestry species and contributes to the restoration of ecosystems.
Impact
- Access for 20,000 children to the products developed by Le Lionceau under the project, of which 6% come from the most vulnerable households
